Species at Risk Stewardship

The Species at Risk Stewardship Program was created to increase awareness of and support for species at risk in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the value of stewardship and education in the recovery and conservation of those species.

The program helps partners and project proponents prepare funding proposals directed toward species at risk whose recovery plans require a public stewardship component. We provide advice and assistance relating to the implementation of projects, and sign stewardship agreements with municipalities where species at risk are found.

Funded projects and stewardship agreements focus on securing and/or protecting habitat containing species at risk, and engaging residents to act in responsible ways as stewards of their local environment.
